I was a bit dismayed to find that none of the nice people I had at my conversation group last Monday came this week. Naturally, I'm looking for what I'm doing wrong, that even the repeat visitors didn't make it. I know there was a registration session for English classes at a nearby school last Thursday, because I told the library conversation group coordinator about it as a possible place to publicize the group. Maybe they decided they wanted to attend a formal class instead of the group. I carefully disclaim any intent to be a class when people ask. I suppose it's just as well I wasn't able to get exercises prepared to answer their questions from last week.
I had two gentlemen today, a Russian originally from Kazakhstan and a Pole. We discussed the crossword tournament and soccer and Disneyland, and did some exercises on verb tenses and subject-verb agreement. I feel like devoting a bit more time to preparation during the week will help further my objectives - having a couple of exercises handy to deploy made the time pass quicker.
I need to see if the Central Library has any conversation groups at times I'm home, so I can go observe.
Afterwards I took a slightly different route home from usual. Normally I hop on the B35 Church Avenue bus to Flatbush and change to the B41 to go home, but today I got off the B35 at McDonald Avenue and took the B67 up Seventh instead. I really wanted the B69, which stops across the street from the Chinese restaurant on Vanderbilt I wanted to buy dinner from, but the B67 came first and I didn't want to wait another 15 minutes for the B69, which was the last of the night. The restaurant is a only block farther away taking the B67, and I can probably use the exercise.
Also, I wrote a little of the novel today. Probably will get a little more in before hitting the hay. I still have a chance to get to 50K by next Thursday, and I intend to maximize my opportunities.
